Gingerbread Men
Last night we read the book, The Gingerbread Man by Jim Aylesworth. On the back there was a recipe. I LOVE children's books that have recipes to go along with the story. I tried to trick my children into thinking that maybe our gingerbread men would jump out of the oven when I opened it but strangely enough, Luke (my EIGHT year old) was the only one that believed me. He claims that it really happened in his Kindergarten class. Hmmmmm...?
GINGERBREAD MAN
Sift into a big bowl and mix: 2 1/2 cups flour 1 teaspoon baking powder 1/4 teaspoon baking soda 1/4 teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon 1 teaspoon ground ginger 1 teaspoon ground cloves 1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
Beat together in another bowl: 1 egg 1 cup firmly packed dark brown sugar 2/3 cup dark molasses 6 tablespoons softened butter
Add dry ingredients slowly to we mixture until well blended. Cover and refrigerate for one hour. Preheat oven to 350 degrees farenheit. Sift flour onto your board and your rolling pin as you work to keep the dough from sticking. Roll out a portion of dough 1/4 inch thick. Cut out with cookie cutter. decorate with raisins. Place on greased cookie sheet and bake 8 minutes. Cool.
