Tucson Gem and Mineral Show

February 8, 2010 · 2 Comments

This morning I gave $5 to each child and we headed out to the Tucson Gem and Mineral Show to find treasures.  From what I understand, it is the largest gem and mineral show in the world, with venues all over the city and it is here for two weeks every February.  There were so many beads, stones, and gems, for such good prices, it made me say to myself, “I could make my own jewelry for so cheap!!!…but I wont because I’m lazy.”  This very cute owl caught my eye so I bought him!  Once I got him home I realized why he caught my eye.  He looks so much like the little clockwork owl from the movie, Clash of the Titans!

Three Toads ACEO

“As Eliza dipped her head under the water, one of the toads sat on her hair, a second on her forehead, and a third on her breast, but she did not seem to notice them, and when she rose out of the water, there were three red poppies floating upon it.”  -Hans Christian Andersen

Sketch: Girl with Rat

February 1, 2010 · 3 Comments

Have you ever drawn, written, or created something, put it away, and then find it years later and cringe because you almost like it but you mostly don’t?  While unpacking today I found this little sketch I did a few years back of a girl cuddling with her pet rat and I almost think it’s cute…but I mostly don’t.

The Potato: Painting and Poem

January 29, 2010 · 6 Comments

This little potato I painted a while back and while he’s not in my usual style, I’ve always felt there was something pretty special about him.  He even has a little poem of his own…

The Potato

Like a small infant cradled in the ground,
In dark cool soil the potato is found!
Sleeping so peaceful in a land far away,
Nestled at the bottom of a hot summer’s day.

A man’s hands dig and push soft dirt aside,
Then hungrily says, “How would you like to be fried!?”
The potato is scrubbed to his bare naked skin,
Then peeled, shaved, and chopped so thin.

Poor potato is fried in a burning hot pan,
Then chewed up and swallowed, into the man.

Today I got him out of my files and put him in my kitchen!

More pencil sketches

Here are some more unpaintables.  Sketches that didn’t pass the test for some reason or another.  It’s always good practice though.
