Quotes from a Future Entomologist

I usually have quotes from Sylvia to share.  Today I have a few from Luke....

  • After he caught a small bee/fly? in his bug jar he said, "It just feels so good to have something in my jar, no matter how common the species."
  • While in the pet store, all of the huge parrots and cockatoos started squawking.  Luke, "It's like a store full of Sylvias!"
  • Staring off into space.  Luke, "I have about a million things going on in my head right now."
  • While exploring under the ocean on Google Earth (by the way, did you know you can go under the ocean on Google Earth?)  Luke said, "I wonder if I am the first person to ever be at this exact spot in the ocean on Google Earth!"  Oh my little virtual explorer.

We've started reading the book, The Witches by Roald Dahl.  A very good book for Halloween!

Email to Interlink Publishing Group- homeschooling/unschooling

Crocodile Books/Interlink Publishing Group, My kids and I have really enjoyed your book, "Fairy Tale Feasts" Fairy Tales retold by Jane Yolen, Recipes by Heidi E.Y. Stemple and illustrations by Philippe Beha.  We loved every aspect of it.  The cute illustrations, the fun fairy tales and the relating recipes that were easy for my children (7, 5, and 2) to help me with.  I am wondering if you have any other children's books with stories and recipes that you have published.  If not, please get Jane,  Heidi, and Philippe busy working on another!!!

Sincerely, Sabrina L. Vincent

Figuring out the library - homeschooling/unschooling

This morning we read the story Snow White from the Fairy Tale Feast book and then made the Magic Baked Apple recipe. It was very simple for the kids to stuff raisins and cinnamon and sugar into the apples and then bake and we LOVED the taste. We then did our formal daily calendar, BOM story, etc. Isabel practiced writing numbers and Luke and I did some Mad Libs. We then headed to the library where I ended up getting frustrated with looking books and subjects up on the library computer records and then trying to find them on the shelves. I ended up getting help from a librarian who was kind enough to bring me in to the last ten years by informing me that I can just look up the books at home online and even click on something or other that will have them take my books to the front desk. So next time I don't have to strap Sylvia into the stroller while Luke and Isabel follow me around patiently while I search and search.  We can go into the children's section, enjoy the puzzles, bean bag chairs and books and then as we leave just grab our stack of books at the front desk and leave! So, What I REALLY should have titled this blog is, "Figuring out that I don't NEED to figure out the library!!!"
