Goo Monster and Princess Crowns- homeschooling/unschooling
Today I had Luke and Isabel write four sentences incorporating their spelling words into them. I then realized that Isabel doesn't know what a sentence is. So Luke and I gave her a lot of examples and she caught on. Isabel then colored a mini book about her while Luke wrote a story, "The Goo Monster 4" and I sang and played with Sylvia. Afterward I read to them from "The Chocolate Touch" book. We then took a break for snacks. Next we did crafts. Luke made puppets for his "Goo Monster" play (which by the way I think I am supposed to start "rehearsals" with him this evening...ugh) and Isabel and I decorated and colored princess crowns while we listened to Disney Princess music. We then cleaned up and had Math. For lunch Luke read "Brer Rabbit" to us while I made the corresponding recipe, Carrot Soup. Who knew carrot soup could be SO good...
Carrot Soup
2 tbs butter - 1 lb carrots - 2 potatoes (peeled and chopped) - 1 onion chopped - 1 clove of garlic - 3 cups water - 1 tsp vegetable bouillon - fresh basil (about 6 leaves) - juice from half an orange - 1/2 tsp orange zest - salt and pepper - heavy cream
Melt butter in a large pot then add the peeled and chopped carrots, garlic, onions and potatoes. add the water, bouillon, garlic and basil. Let it boil for 7 min or until veggies are soft. Add juice, zest, and salt and pepper to taste. Blend pot mixture in a blender and serve with a dollop of cream and a sprinkle of fresh basil.
After lunch we went to another homeschool mom's house with the other moms and kids and had them do PE and have popsicles. When we got home we watched another episode of How It's Made.
